Sugar? Me? Never.

Okay, that’s a lie. Since declaring I’d go without sugar (and by that I meant, I’m trying to steer away from sweet things), I have done that successfully! The only run-ins with sugar I’ve had are with a Hansen’s soda I split with Severin (<-apparently he had told me, enthusiastically, that he’d go sugar-free while on a runner’s high…he’s being much more laid-back about it and not exactly going along with it); ketchup; a bite of a chocolate bar to deal with cramps. Since I haven’t really had much (cane or any other except for natural) sugar for a week, I don’t care for the taste of it anymore. Everyday I used to get cravings for sugar, for something very sweet, but that has not happened lately. And I love it! I feel more clean and pure if that makes sense. Another benefit is that I feel like my abs are more defined. I also have a better taste for things now that I don’t have sugar numbing my taste buds. I’ve realized that the vanilla almondmilk I used to buy is way too sweet, and that the unsweetened tastes perfectly fine! Smile

As far as sweets, I have made a few concoctions- mostly peanut or almond butter based things, with oats and maple syrup and cocoa powder. Nothing mind-blowing (so no recipes to share), just simple satisfying things. Something new I’ve been eating is KALE! I knew I loved kale, since I love bitter stuff and Symphonie always included kale in their amazing garlic veggies. I like to steam a bunch of it and then munch on it like a dinosaur!

Kale and leftover pizza made more awesome with fresh garlic and tomato!

I’ve been eating my veggies but I know someone who could always use a few more veggies in his diet. And that is why I gave him this awesome product I won in Matt’s giveaway.

I tasted it but wasn’t the biggest fan; I’m not saying it’s terrible but I prefer the grassiness of powders like Amazing Grass . I tend to be very picky with berry flavors, sometimes I love it, sometimes I don’t. Severin didn’t mind it but I know he gets plenty of veggies. I had my best friend Jorge taste it and he liked it, which is great since he sure could use it!  I made him take it home with him and promise me he’d use it. Next time I see him, I bet he will be glowing! Winking smile

On the workout/around the neighborhood front, I’ve been doing lots of walking, running, cycling, Shredding. I even tried running in the mountains this weekend but it was a huge mistake. It was a day I knew I should’ve stayed in bed instead of getting up at 4am to run…I managed to do a mile with my dad and tio then told them I had to turn back. I ended up having such bad cramps I was literally lying on the ground in the mountains, unable to move. I was finally able to run back to the car fueled by the thought that I would rather not have a bear eat me. [then this whole not eating animals business would have been for nothing!] Thinking back on it, it’s kinda hilarious but at the time it was soo not! On another day, Severin took me to run up these crazy steep hills and for 2 days afterwards my calves were incredibly tight and sore. He sure showed me!

And while walking back from Target last week we passed by a ton of houses that had been burned down that day (on purpose) while shooting the show True Blood. A woman across the street from that site told us that at 4am they were filming, so she had an interesting time watching the vampires scream and run around. I don’t watch that show but it’s always fun to hear about stuff like that. On a similar note, while meeting people (found via Craigslist) about a nanny job this weekend, they tried introducing me to their neighbor, the drummer for Weezer (so I could nanny for them too), but he wasn’t home. There’s your Hollywood gossip/news for the day, Eagle Rock edition! And if anyone’s wondering about the possible John Krasinski spotting I mentioned at the end of May- it never happened! The set kept moving all over town and I couldn’t keep up! Major bummer that this is the second time I missed seeing Krasinski in this neighborhood! (the first was here.)

Have a lovely day! Do something awesome! Smile

  1. Okay I so want to live somewhere where I can randomly run into famous people, at least for awhile ;)

You are a rockstar for the sugar-free shenanigans! I keep telling myself I’ll do it then just not committing at all lol.

  2. Good for you for being pretty much sugar-free!! I think it sounds like you did really well. There are just some things you can’t avoid, and you have to give yourself a little grace too. :)

you make me want to try it!! I avoid most sugars pretty easily, just a bite here and there. It’s so awesome that it makes you feel good and I want to experience that!! I think that it’s good that you’re not too strict — ketchup is the best condiment ever and so worth a little deviation :)
John Krasinski is one of my favorite actors! Such a bummer that you didn’t meet him.. He’s so cute! haha.

  5. YUM! kale is the best :)
Nice going on the sugar front! I love unsweetened almond milk
I’m going to have to check out Symphonie soon

  6. This is inspiring. I feel like I could NEVER go without sugar but if I could just try my life would probably be better… maybe I’ll try it for a day or so :)

    I love John K. too.

  7. Oh your pizza looks awesome!! That is so admirable to cut back on sugar. I have been doing that for about a month now and it has really made a difference!

  8. Megan says:

I’m so happy you are not being too strict on this suga free thing. That way you don’t feel so deprived :D
    Kale is the best!

  9. I could never go sugar free! Maple syrup owns my soul ;)

I think I’d do better on the sugar front without my sweet tooth having fiance. I’m gonna blame it on him. Yup.

I do find that when I don’t eat sweets, baked goods I stop craving them and it’s much easier for me to pass up a cookie or a brownie.

  11. Katie says:

Yay! I’m so glad the no-sugar challenge is going well for you! I’ve stopped craving it too, which I NEVER thought would happen, as I have a major sweet tooth usually. I guess that’s because I keep pumping my body full of the stuff. :-) Hah. Keep it up!

  12. Ameena says:

I am almost over my sugar cravings but then a night like last night happens where I get a bit out of control with a back of chocolate chips…
